    POC Obex MIPS is a helmet that combines modernity, safety, and style. Designed with all-day comfort and protection in mind, this helmet is an excellent example of innovation in ski and snowboard equipment.

    This season, POC Obex MIPS has been equipped with a new head protection system, MIPS. This system, integrating with the Whole Helmet Concept™, increases the level of head protection during falls. MIPS allows the helmet to move 10-15 mm upon impact, which effectively reduces rotational forces acting on the head, protecting the brain from serious injuries.

    The EPS core (expanded polystyrene) in the POC Obex MIPS helmet is both lightweight and durable. Its main task is to absorb impact energy, which is crucial for ensuring safety. The lightness of the material also contributes to user comfort, not overly burdening the skier’s head.

    The entire helmet is covered with a shell made of PC (polycarbonate) and ABS in the upper part. This combination of materials provides durability and resistance to damage while keeping the helmet’s weight low. This shell provides protection not only against impacts but also against external factors such as cold and moisture.

    Advantages

    Impact protection
    Skiing is classified as a high-risk sport, which means that the greatest possible protection is required during skiing. The helmet offers impact protection, which increases the user[s safety on the slopes.
    PC shell
    The shell is made of durable polycarbonate. It is a durable and abrasion- and impact-resistant material, characterised by its low weight. It is able to dissipate more impact force than thermoplastic and is relatively cheap to produce, resulting in a more attractive helmet price.
    Active ventilation
    The active ventilation system allows the airflow to be individually controlled to suit current needs. Thanks to this solution, excess warm air and moisture will be vented to the outside, without being exposed to excessive cooling.
    Ergonomic design
    The ergonomic shape ensures a high level of comfort when skiing. This helmet design allows undisturbed airflow, which also improves ventilation inside the shell.
    Hybrid design
    The hybrid construction combines the advantages of in mould construction and hardshell construction. Part of the helmet has a hard shell and the rest is covered with lighter foam, making the helmet weigh less.
    EN 1077 certification
    This is a European safety certificate which certifies that the helmet has passed crash and point tests. The first part of the test determines the maximum force that can act on the helmet during a collision, checking absorption through deformation, while the second tests the strength of the shell during point impacts, such as with a ski pole.
    Buckle fastening
    The chin strap uses a classic buckle fastening. It is easy to use, but fastening and unfastening it can be problematic with winter gloves. It will work well with helmets designed for slightly older children.
    ABS shell
    The shell is made of a synthetic polymer that is highly scratch-resistant and characterised by high hardness and strength. It is also characterised by high resistance to deformation.
    Soft ear muffs
    Soft ear muffs are a different helmet design with ear muffs that are not overlapped by the helmet shell. They are extremely soft and protect the ears from the cold without interfering with sound reception. They do not, however, provide protection against injuries that may occur in the event of an accident.
    EPS inner shell
    Under the outer, impact-resistant shell, there is an inner layer made of polystyrene. It has a varying density and its main function is to absorb the force of impact during an accident. It provides a good level of safety.
    Adjustment of size by means of a dial
    A classic adjustment system that allows the helmet to be precisely adjusted to the circumference of the head. Using the rotary knob, the helmet can be easily and quickly increased or decreased in several sizes. The correct fit of the helmet increases safety when riding.
    ASTM F2040 certification
    This is an American safety standard, more stringent than the European CE 1077 ECC standard. The test involves dropping the helmet on three types of impact anvils at different speeds. However, point tests and chin strap tests are omitted. A helmet with this certification ensures safety during a crash.
    Technologies
    MIPS®
    Multidirectional Impact Protection System - A common impact protection system used in helmets. Its purpose is to protect against the rotational movement that occurs during a severe impact. MIPS absorbs the first shock, minimising the risk of brain damage.
    In-Mould
    In-mold is a manufacturing method in which the outer shell of the helmet is permanently bonded to a layer of inner protective foam during moulding. This makes the helmet lighter, more durable and better absorbs impacts. The process also provides an aesthetically pleasing finish and increased structural durability.
