A type of synthetic insulation, known as ‘artificial down’, which is used in outdoor clothing and footwear. It consists of polyester microfibres and provides high thermal insulation and moisture resistance.

The DWR coating makes the fabric water repellent, so that water forms droplets on its surface and runs off instead of soaking in. This protects the fabric from getting wet quickly, providing greater comfort in wet conditions, but does not guarantee full water repellency.
