Unfortunately (for me) there have been big changes between the current model and the Defenders of 2-3 years ago. First of all, the material is much thinner and softer, and doesn't seem to last very long (it used to be stiffer and very resistant to abrasion - that's what made me decide to buy this model again). Secondly the sizing - I used to wear a 34 and lost weight, so I ordered a 32. They turned out to be too tight. So I ordered a 34 - and, as luck would have it, they turned out to be way too loose. Something somewhere along the line has changed and, for me, not at all for the better.

Shorts superbly made. But beware of sizing I have a waist circumference of 32 and in these shorts I have a 36. 38 I chose for the long so in order not to return unnecessarily I recommend two sizes larger 32 -> 36 etc.
