It has been developed by Daiwa as a new super-composite material to enhance the performance of lightweight and robust reels. It is comparably lightweight to Zaion, but much stiffer and more resistant to stress than DS5 and DS4 materials. Its mechanical properties allow the creation of reel bodies and rotors that are lighter than DS5 and DS4, allowing the internal mechanisms to work better, providing smoother operation and better resistance to fatigue.

A method of winding line onto the spool of a reel that relies on a specific relationship between the up and down movement of the spool on its axis and the rotation of the rotor around it. The key here is the proper alignment of the line on the spool, and SCW technology provides just that. The slower oscillation of the spool as it moves up and down leads to a slight crossing of the wound layers of line, resulting in better line alignment.
