I’d been thinking about buying one for the past two years. I wasn’t entirely convinced by a drinking mug with such a large diameter (13 cm). It turned out that drinking from it is actually quite comfortable – you do need to use the lid, of course. The mug is highly versatile. You can drink from it. You can use it as a bowl. Or you can take it apart to have two separate containers. What’s more, it fits perfectly into the MSR Alpine StowAway 775 ml pot, as well as into the Trangia 27 (1 litre) pots and any other pots of similar diameter (minimum 135 mm internal diameter, as the set is 131 mm in diameter). As far as I know, it’s designed for people who eat dehydrated meals. It’s not very popular here, but in the US quite a few people put their own meals together (it’s much cheaper). They don’t come in their original packaging, so a heat-retaining container is essential. The original packaging takes up a lot of space, which is why many people repackage this sort of food. GSI has responded to the market’s needs. Whilst they were at it, they designed a drinking vessel to enhance its functionality. They also have a kettle that this set fits into, as well as pots for boiling water that perfectly accommodate the set or sets – in case anyone wasn’t aware or was interested in such items.
