Gregory women's hiking backpack Jade 38 l red 145655 (145655)
The Gregory Jade 38 l backpack is an excellent companion for longer hikes and trekking, designed with the needs of active women in mind. It combines advanced technology, comfort, and style to meet the challenges of any expedition. Its dynamic FreeFloat suspension system and sporty design are perfect for covering extra miles with ease and lightness.
Its ergonomic design is specially tailored to the female anatomy. The backpack features an adjustable back panel, allowing it to be customised to different back lengths, with an adjustment range of 9 cm. This provides excellent support and comfort, especially important during long trips.
The innovative, dynamic FreeFloat hip belt is one of the main features of this backpack. It is connected to the frame via a special panel that adapts to body movements, providing unparalleled support and freedom of movement while hiking.
The shoulder straps made from innovative Lifespan foam guarantee users exceptional comfort while carrying. These straps are designed to maximise thermal comfort – they are perforated, which increases airflow around the shoulders and back.
The alloy frame in the backpack ensures stable load management and torso flexibility, which is especially important in more challenging terrain. This allows for comfortable carrying of the backpack’s weight.
The Gregory Jade 38 l backpack has been designed for maximum user comfort and includes many practical features. It has a hydration sleeve with a SpeedClip attachment system compatible with Gregory’s 3D Hydro reservoir, making hydration easier during long hikes. Additionally, the backpack is equipped with attachment points for trekking poles, increasing its functionality on the trail.
Impractical, uncomfortable and ridiculously expensive
At this price, I would expect, above all, comfort, good ergonomics and well-thought-out organisation of the space. In my case, the Jade 38 fails to deliver on any of these points.
The biggest disappointment for me is the absolute lack of comfort when wearing it. The rucksack forces me into an unnatural position for my neck and nape – the upper part of the carrying system sits very close to the nape of my neck, and I feel as though I have to keep pushing my head forwards. After wearing the rucksack, my neck simply aches. This is the first time in my life I’ve experienced something like this. Following this colossal failure, I bought a cheap 35-litre Alpinus rucksack, which is much more spacious and far better organised inside than the Jade 38. What’s more, it cost 3–4 times less.
Another problem is the very poor functionality of the interior. The rucksack is basically just a large bag suspended from a frame. It lacks a sensible division into compartments and practical dividers that would help to organise your belongings. The external elasticated and spacious pocket isn’t fastened with a zip but with a drawstring – everything falls out of it and it’s easy for things to be stolen.
It’s much the same with the external pockets on the hip belt – they’re practically useless to me, as they don’t hold much, and even if you do manage to cram something in, you can’t get it out easily. By comparison, in the smaller and much cheaper Alpinus, I can easily fit my mobile phone and a few sets of keys. The top access also disappointed me, and I’m not sure why I overlooked this before buying it. Instead of a proper zip, it has a drawstring closure. You can also access the interior from the outside via the zip, which, in my opinion, increases the risk of theft, for example at an airport. As for items stored deeper inside, you simply have to dig around to get to them. Ultimately, the rucksack’s just lying around and I hardly ever use it. I regret not having managed to return it. I’d rate the ratio of functionality and comfort to price as extremely disproportionate.Functional and comfortable
Backpack almost perfect. Spacious side and waist pockets, you can put a water bottle in without taking the backpack off, fits well, useful frame length adjustment. Useful opening on the front. In addition, it has a very nice colour:)
