I ride on platforms and was looking for shoes with a relatively flat sole but with a clearly defined tread.
These are my first winter cycling shoes. Previously I used covers, boot protectors or put on winter trekking or cross-country ski boots. Now the difference is colossal. Only cross-country ski boots could match the thermal comfort, but they were uncomfortable because of the strange shape of the sole.
I bought these shoes a number bigger than normal and it was a good decision. The toes have play so they don't get numb from the cold. There is also a lot of slack in the heel, which can be adjusted with Velcro, but not completely, and the heel hold is not as tight as in other models. I don't mind this for recreational riding. On the other hand, the shoes are insanely comfortable for normal wear, for walking - you don't feel it's a cycling shoe - and that's something I was looking for.
After a day of riding in light rain at around +4 degrees, you could already feel a slight chill in the toes, but they were still dry. On a light frost for up to four hours they comfortably provide thermal comfort.
I bought them at a discounted price of £719 and am extremely satisfied. But if I had to spend a thousand zloty, I'd probably look around for other models too.
