SRAM, founded in 1987, is recognized as one of the leaders in the bicycle components industry. The brand got its start with the introduction of the innovative Grip Shift shifting system, which revolutionized the road and later mountain bike market. Since then, SRAM has grown rapidly, becoming one of the world's major component suppliers.
The SRAM story began with a dream of a better shifting system, which resulted in the creation of the Grip Shift by Stan Day and engineer Sam Patterson. From the initial experiments in a San Diego garage, to the first product demonstrations, to the debut at the Long Beach bike show in 1988, SRAM has consistently developed its offerings.
Over the years,SRAM has acquired a number of major bicycle companies, such as German chain manufacturer Sachs, suspension manufacturer RockShox, brake company Avid, crank and bottom bracket manufacturer Truvativ and pedal manufacturer TIME Sport. These acquisitions have allowed SRAM to offer a full drive system and bicycle components.
SRAM is also committed to developing sustainable technologies and products, such as Hubber helmets made from recycled and renewable materials, as well as using modern diagnostic tools like ShockWiz and TyreWiz to optimize riding.
