ATD™ Type-L technology is an advanced braking system that enables smooth and efficient cable release during loading. It is designed to minimise initial resistance during start-up while providing the necessary safety in difficult conditions.

It has been developed by Daiwa as a new super-composite material to enhance the performance of lightweight and robust reels. It is comparably lightweight to Zaion, but much stiffer and more resistant to stress than DS5 and DS4 materials. Its mechanical properties allow the creation of reel bodies and rotors that are lighter than DS5 and DS4, allowing the internal mechanisms to work better, providing smoother operation and better resistance to fatigue.
