Bonded seams
Hiking clothing is usually designed to protect against inclement weather. The construction uses taped seams to prevent water from entering the garment, protecting the hiker from rain.
DWR
The DWR coating makes the fabric water repellent, so that water forms droplets on its surface and runs off instead of soaking in. This protects the fabric from getting wet quickly, providing greater comfort in wet conditions, but does not guarantee full water repellency.
Powertex
A waterproof membrane that effectively keeps out water and snow, and offers a basic level of breathability, sufficient to ensure comfort for less intense activities.
